Opened in April 2009, the Vancouver Convention Centre is a unique, built structure on the Vancouver waterfront with 60% of the building on land, and 40% built overtop the water. At 6.5 acres, it is the largest living green roof in Canada, and provides a living link between many habitats – Stanley Park, North Shore Mountains and the Burrard Inlet – and downtown Vancouver. More than 400,000 plants and grasses were planted on the green roof, and nearly two dozen species native to the Pacific Northwest were included in the planting to create an ecosystem that mimics a typical British Columbia coastal grassland/wild meadow. LEED Gold Certification is currently being sought for the building and many environmental innovations have been incorporated into the design, including deep seawater heating and cooling, on-site water treatment; and black water treatment and desalinization systems that are projected to reduce portable water usage by 60 to 70% over typical convention centres.

CitiesAlive Trade Show and Expert Sessions will be held in this facility.
